I am sure you have recently about the tragic fire that happened in an escape room in Poland as a result of negligence from the company, which resulted in the tragic loss of five lives.
We want you to know that our thoughts are with the families and friends of those that lost their lives and want to reassure you all the existing precautions we had already taken prior to this stories release.
Every company that owns a public building is legally obligated to have a fire risk assessment every year. We at Other World Escapes have conducted 2 for our Southampton branch and 1 Portsmouth branch in line with the legal requirements. We have been awarded good fire ratings on both and we go above and beyond the minimum legal requirements for these. These Fire Risk Assessments are conducted by independent fire safety experts.
We train all staff on fire evacuation procedures and we now detail the nearest fire exits in all of our health & safety briefings and answer any questions on this prior to you entering the adventure.
All floors of each of our venues is provided with the necessary fire extinguishers for the respective purposes. These are easily accessible and all hosts know where they are in the unlikely event of a fire. These are checked weekly by our trained staff members and are part of the formal risk assessment once a year to ensure they are in-date and operational.
Fire, health and safety is our utmost concern during the build of any of our immersive adventures. We use 12.5mm fire rated plasterboard for the walls, fire retardant spray for any fabrics in the rooms, use low (12v) voltage circuitry for our electronics, and ensure there are no obstructions to escape in the unlikely event of a fire.
All management staff are trained first aiders and we ensure that we have a trained first aider on site at all times customers are in the building. The whole game is monitored by the games host via CCTV and audio, and can discuss any concerns with players before, during and after the games via our in-game 2-way audio hints systems.
